The word tithe means “a tenth” or 10%. From Genesis throughout the New Testament there are references to tithing. Tithing is when you take 10% of whatever increase you have (money earned) and give it to your local church. God’s word tells us that everything we have actually belongs to God and that we are just stewards of what He has enabled us to receive. God then tells us to honor Him by taking 10% and bringing it to our place of worship. Obedience to tithing brings God’s blessings while disobedience robs God of that opportunity to bless. If you are not giving 10% to your local church you are not tithing and missing out on special blessings that God desires you to have.

Again the temple was destroyed in 70 ad. The local church is not the old system, so tithing 10 percent is not required. What is required now is 100 percent obedience to Jesus!! We give money and ourselves to furthering the Kingdom of God. We don't give "tithes" so the "pastor " can live in a big house and drive expensive cars and tell everyone God has blessed Him.

Tithes are not given to the "pastor" but to the local church. That church then makes the decision on how those funds should be spent in the work of God's Kingdom. New Testament does teach that a workman is worthy of his hire and it is referring to one who minister's the Word of God such as a pastor or leading elder.
