What does it mean in Acts 2 and Acts 8 when it says “they were all filled with the Holy Spirit” and “they received the Holy Spirit”?

After these people became believers there was another experience that took place called the baptism of (or being filled with) the Holy Spirit. This according to Jesus was “a promise of the Father” and the purpose was to assist in the believers being “witnesses unto Him”. This being filled or baptized with the Holy Spirit is a cleansing, empowering presence of God’s Spirit that helps a person live a life where the power of sin is broken. Every believer should desire and seek to be filled with the Holy Spirit. It is a gift not earned but simply received from the Lord. “If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.” Galatians 5:25

Isn't it true that we are all children of God, and we each have our own path to find Him?

Not so, this is a  teaching held by universalists that is not based on the Word of God.
John 1:9 says that “as many as received Him (Christ) to them He gave the right to become children of God”.
We are all created in His image and are a part of His creation but to become a child of God requires receiving or accepting Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Jesus Himself said this in John 14:6 “I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” According to the Bible the only way to God is through Jesus Christ. Each person can not find or make up their own path for there is only one path and that is through accepting Jesus Christ as God’s way of salvation.

This is a new Year, what would you recommend as goals for 2015?

The new year is as good as time as any to set goals. Here are three recommendations that I think could apply in most situations: Set a goal to spend at least 5 minutes everyday just mediating quietly in prayer with God. Not asking for anything but just letting God know you love Him and want to enjoy His presence, allowing Him to speak to you. Secondly, set at least five minutes each day to read God’s Word the Bible. This will give you a foundation of truth and inspiration on which God can help you to build and live a life that brings honor to Him. Third goal, make sure to let family and friends know that they are loved and appreciated. Pursue these goals and you will have a great 2015!
