Here is a very simple definition. A Protestant church is considered to be any Christian church that is not Catholic. A Pentecostal Church is considered to be any Christian church that believes and practices the infilling or baptism of the Holy Spirit and the gifts of the Spirit. The name Pentecostal came because of what happened on the day of Pentecost in Acts 2. By this simple definition a Pentecostal church is a Protestant church that believes and practices the teachings of the New Testament that include the last teaching of Jesus before He ascended into heaven. They also believe and allow for the gifts of the Holy Spirit to be manifested according to the teaching of the New Testament. The bible tells us that every person will spend eternity someplace. There are only two eternal destines, heaven and hell. Because of sin we are told that man has been separated from God and that separation is for all eternity, which is hell. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth and the life. No man can come to the Father (God)(Heaven) except through Me.” The only way any person, deceased or living, can have a better place awaiting them is by receiving Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior while still alive. Not every funeral that I have done have I made the statement that the deceased was now in a better place. God is the final judge, but He has also made it very clear that only those who believe on the Lord can be saved. A statement of faith is usually a basic list of what that particular church believes concerning God, the Bible, Sin, Salvation etc. If a church won’t provide that information or hasn’t made a commitment on those basic essential issues I would encourage you to not join that church. The statement of faith is a vital part of your spiritual foundation for growth. Life can be very difficult, unfair and hurtful at times. You can feel trapped in an unbearable situation. When you are hopeless and hurting suicide can seem like a way out. You need to know God loves you and never wanted to see you in this situation. There is a real evil in the world that Jesus says has come to steal, kill and destroy. Evil people do evil things. Bad things happen to innocent people. Jesus said, He came so that we might have an abundant, fulfilled life. Before this evil takes any more of your life ask Jesus to take charge of your life. In the name of Jesus command this spirit of death to leave. Ask God to fill you with His Holy Spirit which brings you strength, joy and peace. Jesus said, He came to heal the broken hearted. |
