You are just as guilty of being involved in gossip if you are willing to listen. No gossip can be done unless there are two people involved. If what someone is “sharing” with you does not build up or encourage the person being discussed you need to excuse yourself from the conversation. Be bold and say, “I don’t want to be a part of gossip”.
I know that gossip is wrong but what is the difference between gossip and just sharing information?10/29/2015 Every time gossip is mentioned in the Bible it warns about the consequences of being involved with either being the one talking or listening. The real difference is motive. When you begin to talk about a person or a situation what is the purpose, the intention you have in what you are about to say. We are encouraged in the Scriptures to build up, to encourage one another. If what you are sharing does not build up or encourage then maybe it would be best to keep your mouth shut. Is what you are sharing necessary or is your motive to show the listener how much you know about the situation?

The bible is very clear on this. James 5:14-15 "Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up." If someone needs prayer due to sickness I would encourage you to find some spiritually mature believers and have them pray and anoint with oil. I have seen some amazing healing happen due to being obedient and following the scriptural directions. This Sunday at 6pm we will be having a special service to pray for those who need healing. Anyone who is sick is welcome to come. |
