A pastor does not lose his first amendment rights. He can talk about where a candidate stands on issues, what the party platform stand is on issues and the voting record of candidates. A pastor can hand out voter guides that list a candidate’s stance on issues. A pastor cannot on behalf of a church endorse a candidate nor can a church financially support a candidate. I believe that it is a pastor’s responsibility to inform his people on the issues and consequences concerning the political, moral, spiritual, financial, etc. choices that they make. As a follower of Christ our political support should first be influenced by the candidate’s or political party stance on abortion, traditional marriage and freedom of religion.
